This will (hopefully) be a recurring entry throughout the hockey season. I'll try to do one each Friday and just state different impressions that I pick up from the various games at various levels that I'll be watching on TV or otherwise. Now for this weeks $0.02 after the jump.

The Golf Ball and the Tennis Ball
Here I will discuss two regular items that have turned into some of my most invaluable training tools. I feel that most youth hockey players (in the South Jersey area at least) are not exposed to these tools to improve stickhandling. Since the emphasis in the Atlantic District seems to be on big hits and fancy stick handling, let's take a look at taking stickhanding and adding training to make it more function than flash.

The NHL Swap Meet
For three weeks this past winter the NHL went a little crazy. There was a player realignment, the likes of which haven't been seen since... well since right after the lockout ended. But still I digress that this was very unexpected and hard to really absorb everything that happened when it went down.

Read this on twitter and it really pissed me off
Saw replays of Patrick Kane's injury. If he stood up & took the hit like a man, it never happens.about 1 hour ago via Twitter for iPhone
First thing I thought was do you not realize that in real life Kane is 5'8" and 160 lbs soaking wet possibly including his gear. I could rant but I promised to make intelligent arguments on this blog so lets look at the incident where Kane got hurt.

Welcome to the taperoom
Welcome to my new blog, Shots From The Taperoom. I love hockey, I’ve watched and also played at a somewhat high level for my area and still lace ‘em up for a good time when I’m not too swamped with work and school. I still keep up with a lot of different leagues and issues involved with the game of hockey and enjoy watching the evolution of the sport on and off the ice in different levels of skill. This blog will not be me pretending to cover and report on any specific team or league. I feel as though there are enough coat tail riding “beat reporters” on the internet already. Instead I will attempt to offer my opinion on issues that get discussed by hockey players about playing hockey. Where these things get kicked around is normally when you’re taping your stick. I’ll also do my best to also present my $0.02 in a somewhat intelligent manner. Remember that I’m not writing for TSN and you’re not making the NHL so have fun when you read this and when you get on the pond too. Enjoy.
