My $0.02 for the week

This will (hopefully) be a recurring entry throughout the hockey season. I'll try to do one each Friday and just state different impressions that I pick up from the various games at various levels that I'll be watching on TV or otherwise. Now for this weeks $0.02 after the jump.

$0.01: The Winnipeg Jets might not be a playoff team just yet, but they are fun to watch. Specifically on their first power play unit. The blueline of Toby Enstrom and Dustin Byfuglien with Bryan Little, Blake Wheeler, and Andrew Ladd up front they have a good chemistry. They play an umbrella system with a lot of high cycling between Byfuglien, Enstrom, and Little. Byfuglien going high to low and then back is a real wildcard because the opposing PK has to respect his big shot from the point as well as account for him when he cycles low to the crease. Toby Enstrom is very slick with and with out the puck and you also have skilled guys like Little and Wheeler that can play off of him. Their PP goal against Toronto was beautifully executed and if the roster can mature they have an outside chance of snaking the 8th spot into the playoffs.

$0.02: A motivated Phil Kessel might be the best pure scoring winger in the NHL. Yes, I am aware that Alex Ovechkin still plays for the Capitals. I would take Kessel playing how is now over even Ovechkin. Right now when Kessel turns up ice with the puck he has a certain look in his eyes that only great pure scorers can claim to possess. Hopefully he can maintain this vein of form that he's tapped to start the season. Kessel has looked a bit lost at times since his trade from Boston but right now with his new running mates in Joffrey Lupul and Tyler Bozak, hopefully Kessel can keep up this form and prove me right.

$0.03: How long before Jonathon Quick starts getting his due as an elite goalie? I think by the end of this season. Quick already has 100 career wins and has started this season off with a 0.97 goals against. If he keeps this up and has can back the Kings to a good playoff run there may start to be some debate as to who the top American goalie is between Quick, Ryan Miller, and Tim Thomas. and where they all fit into a top five goalie ranking.
